Rozemaai Egg

Wood, plastic, steel, ... - 4m x 2m x 2.5m

Rozemaai is a social residential area of Antwerp, cut off from the city by the highway and a railway. When we were asked by the city of Antwerp to build a permanent installation on a central lawn in the neighborhood together with the local youth, we wanted to create an image of a hopeful beginning in response to the isolation of the district; something that can get wings and bridge distances. As construction materials we were offered the diverse rubbish from the cellars of the apartment buildings. We imagined a big egg in a nest, its building elements hanging seemingly loose together.

The Rozemaai Egg is a collaboration with Woonhaven, Luchtbal Cultural Centre, JES and the local kids.
