Theater - Duration 1: 00h
Merry stories about dead city birds is a moving and comical theater performance about the life of Tanya Hrvatin. She bursts in the room, hiding from a bird that is following her, with a suitcase filled with stories -memories of birds dying around her, anecdotes about her first Erithacus Rubicola and the serenity of a cemetery.
The monologue came about in response to a phenomenon that we suddenly saw everywhere in the city of Antwerp: dead birds, we literally saw dead birds lying everywhere. With Janne Desmet came a lot of humor, poetry, a strong story and an exceptional actress. Tanya Hrvatin was created in barely a week, but her life work - burying all the dead birds she finds - grew 5 years long in over a hundred performances.
Made by Elke & Bruno and Janne Desmet, together with Het Huis van Bourgondië and Berchem Cultural Centre. Throughout the years, the play has become an ode for the much missed Roel Verniers who believed in us even before we had done anything mentionable.
